Brussels, 09/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - Commissioner Monti has announced that the Italian government had just agreed to amend the "salva-calcio" decree. The Italian authorities have also "explicitly" excluded the possibility of state aid being granted according to this law. In a press statement the Commissioner underlined that, "Following the intervention of the European Commission, the Italian taxpayer can rest assured: irrespective of how the financial situation of Italian soccer clubs will develop, it will not be the taxpayers that will be called upon to bail out Italian soccer".
