17/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - During the dialogue between the EP's economic and monetary committee and the president of the ECB, Jean-Claude Trichet on Monday in Brussels (EUROPE yesterday p 12), CDU MEP, Werner Langen, again attacked the long delays in the Lisbon process, declaring, "Europe is still at the preparation stage of the journey but is a long way from being on the road" and in the right direction. He stated that in this context a moratorium was needed over several years in European legislation, particularly for that on the environment. He averred that "If the Lisbon process is going to be a success, the Commission must rapidly put an end to the regulatory madness in the area of chemical policy, one of the rare EU sectors which works". He also said that he wanted the same approach adopted for the car industry.
