Luxembourg, 09/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - The new judge at the European Court of Justice, Konrad Schiemann of Britain, has taken up his office to replace Judge David Edward, who has resigned. Born in 1937, a barrister (1964-1980), member of the Queen's Council (1980-1986), Judge at the High Court of England and Wales (19861995) and Lord Justice of Appeal (1995-2003), the new European judge took over his office on 7 January 2004. His term of office will end on 6 October 2006, when the mandate of Judge Edward, whom he replaces, would have ended. Judge Edward (born 1934) had been at the Court since the creation of the EU Court of First Instance in 1989 and was the first British judge. From 1992 to the present time he had served as judge at the European Court of Justice.
