30/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - Following the attack on Romano Prodi in Bologna on Saturday (see yesterday's Europe, p.3), the German police took possession of a letter on Monday that had been posted in Bologna that might contain explosives and had been addressed to the President of the European Central Bank, Jean-Claude Trichet. On the same day, Dutch police intercepted a letterbomb addressed to Europol in the Hague. Belgian interior minister told reporters that the necessary measures had been taken to ensure Romano Prodi's safety in Brussels.
