08/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - Mr Sauli Niinistö was named Vice-President and member of the board of the European Investment Bank (EIB) on 3 September. He replaces Mr Ewald Nowotny, who joined the EIB in September 1999 and held the title of honorary Vice President. Mr Niinistö, a lawyer by training, and whose candidacy was proposed by Sweden, Austria and Finland (who make up an "electoral group" in the EIB), was Finland's Deputy Prime Minister from 1995 to 2001.
