08/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - Pascal Lamy's comments on French public finances have provoked a reaction in Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin. At a meeting in Paris last Friday, the French Premier invited Mr Lamy to "stick to his mandate" (negotiations at the WTO). EUROPE recalls that in similar circumstances (cultural policy matters), Mr Lamy replied that the Commissioners cannot accept any instructions coming directly from a national government.
