EUR 31.665 million for Portugal - France soon to make its request - Prevention

Brussels, 27/08/2003 (Agence Europe) - "The European Union must show its solidarity in words, in compassion but also with concrete action", European Commissioner Michel Barnier said on Wednesday as he announced to the press that the Commission is proposing EUR 31.665 million for Portugal from the European Solidarity Fund. This is to help Portugal bear the cost of fighting the forest fires which hit it badly this summer. Adoption of the proposal depends on the European Parliament and Council....
