Brussels, 29/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission on Monday decided to lift the restrictions imposed since March 2002 on consignments of shrimps and poultry from Thailand (following the discovery of nitrofurans in shrimps and poultry imported from Thailand and Vietnam). The action plan put in place by the Thai authorities to address the deficiencies, and the results of the checks carried out by Member States, have shown a major improvement in the situation and Member States may reduce the frequency of checks from 100% of imports to 20%. The requirement to test all consignments of shrimps imported from Thailand was lifted on 24 June 2003.
