Brussels, 08/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission confirmed that a letter of objection had been sent to the companies General Electric (GE) and Instrumentarium whose project of partnership is currently the subject of an indepth investigation. "We are continuing discussion on objections in order to find a solution to the problems identified", spokesperson Amelia Torres said, without mentioning what problems. The Commission is expected to take a decision on 11 September at the latest, if the process underway keeps to the timetable set, she specified. Instrumentarium said for its part in a press release that it was continuing "constructive dialogue" with the Commission. We recall that the Commission had, on 5 April this year, decided to pursue the second phase of the inquiry that it was carrying out into the procurement by GE of the Finnish manufacturer of medical equipment Instrumentariaum. Risks of a dominant position had been identified at the time regarding individual monitoring screens, surgical cradles and mammography.
