Brussels, 27/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Party of European Socialists led by Robin Cook has created a High Level Group to produce a major policy document by February 2004. The policy group will hold its first meeting in October this year and will be chaired by former Danish Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, who published a 150-page report in May entitled "Europe and a new global order - bridging the global divides". The other members are European Commissioner Pascal Lamy; former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland, now Director General of the World Health Organisation (she was also the author of a key report on sustainable development); Maria Joao Rodrigues, Portuguese Vice-Chair of the Socialist International Committee on the Economy, Social Cohesion and the Environment (also very active in preparing the Lisbon strategy); Christoph Zöpel, Chair of the same committee; Piero Fassino, leader of the Italian Democratic Left; Elio Di Rupo, leader of the Socialist Party, Belgium; Denis McShane, British Minister for European Affairs; Pär Nuder, Swedish Minister for Policy Coordination; MEPs Max van den Berg and Raimon Obiols; and Jozef Olesky, Chairman of the European Committee of the Polish parliament.
