Brussels, 21/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - A conference organised by the European Commission and the Greek Presidency on the 22 and 23 May in Brussels, gathered roughly 700 participants, including Ministers, high-ranking civil servants, health care professionals and company representatives, on the theme of on-line health (use of the internet by health care professionals and patient access to on-line information) and new technologies at the service of health. 20 European countries, including eight current Member States of the EU, were represented either by a Secretary of State, or by a Minister for Telecommunications or Health (the 12 others represented are members of the AELE or acceding countries). A declaration (on which EUROPE will return) should close the ministerial part of this conference, to which the Greek Minister for Health, Kostas Stefanis and Commissioners David Byrne and Erkki Liikanen will participate. An exhibition will present 42 applications for new technologies in terms of health care, such as, for example, glasses correcting the sight and movements of persons suffering from Parkinson's.
