12/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - At the AGM of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) this week in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), the Luxembourg prime minister Jean-Clause Juncker was elected President of the Council of Governors of the bank that was set up in 1991 to aid the transition of Central and Eastern European countries to a market economy. Juncker will be taking over from Clare Short, the UK's development minister.
