Brussels, 12/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - The fight against illegal immigration will again be a key theme of discussions between EU15 Justice and Home Affairs Ministers during the Informal Council on 28 and 29 March in Veria, near Thessaloniki. According to the provisional agenda, work will begin with this theme in order to prepare the report to the attention of the European Council in Thessaloniki on implementing the Seville roadmap for European immigration and border control policy. The Presidency foresees discussion on the management of external borders (especially joint teams), the fight against illegal immigration, the fight against the trafficking in people, and also cooperation of liaison officers in the Balkans (EUROPE of 22 January, p.16, and 28 February, pp. 9 and 10). Ministers will then tackle the question of integrating immigrants (EUROPE of 17 October and 17 February). The next day, the two subjects on the agenda will be the Commission's Green Paper on the rights of the accused in criminal proceedings (EUROPE of 19 February, p.17), and the points on justice and home affairs treated by the Convention (EUROPE of 8 March, p.3, and 7 December).
