GENERAL NEWS / (eu) ep/stability pact

21/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - The President of the EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Poettering, welcomed the excessive deficit procedure launched on Monday by the EcoFin Council against Germany as "a consequential step in view of implementing the Stability Pact ad defending a stable euro". The German CDU member noted that EU Finance ministers had thus shown that they were prepared to defend monetary stability also vis-a-vis large countries like Germany and France
