Brussels, 04/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - On the occasion of his first official visit to the Pacific, Commissioner Poul Nielson signed the indicative regional programme on Friday that will guide cop-operation between the EU and the Pacific region over five years and will benefit from EUR 29 million, distributed as follows: 9 million in support for regional integration at trade and economic levels that is to lad to a free-trade area at the end of the year; 8 million to encourage the development of human resources in view of increasing trade and investments; 5 million in support of a sustainable fisheries policy; 7 million to develop aid programmes regarding sustainable agriculture, responding to natural disasters, environmental protection and 6 small insular States newly members of the Cotonou agreement.
