Brussels, 03/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - Javier Solana, the Union's High Representative for external policy, welcomed the ratification of the 14 March 2001 Agreement by the Federal Parliament of Yugoslavia, which occurred on Friday. This agreement governs the new political relations between the two republics of Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro (see EUROPE of 15 March, p.4).
"I am extremely satisfied to learn of the approval by the Federal Parliament of Belgrade of the 14 March Agreement. It is an important step for the process. Now, the three parliaments concerned have taken the decision provided for in the Agreement, and that confirms broad political support for the new constitutional arrangement", he declared. "I hope that now the parliaments will appoint their representatives to the Constitutional Commission without delay so that work on the new Constitutional Charter may begin immediately. The EU will continue to support the process as the complete putting in place of the 14 March agreement remains a fundamental element in Serbia and Montenegro's Europeans perspective", he concluded.
