31/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - Following the European Commission's request for information from the Netherlands regarding possible infringement under the European Social Fund (see EUROPE of 7 July, 2001), the Director General of DG Employment at the European Commission, Odile Quintin, said during a meeting of the Committee on Budgetary Control that the Commission would be proposing reimbursement slightly below the EUR 200 million initially requested. The Netherlands have, however, given the Commission proof (mainly of payment) of spending made under the Social Fund, said Andrew Fielding, spokesman for Commissioner Anna Diamantopoulou.
