17/08/2001 (Agence Europe) - The last issue of "Combats souverainistes", information letter put out by William Abitbol, Paul-Marie Couteaux and Florence Kuntz, members of the EDD Group (Europe of Democracies and Diversities) in the European Parliament waxes ironic especially over "Our Friend the Euro", noting that the Turkish Minister of the Economy and Finance, Kermal Dervis, declared in July that "we may arrive at a situation where it is possible for Turkey to adopt the euro without being a member of the European Union". "It's true that in 2002 the euro will already be the currency of Kosovo, so all hopes are permitted..", the French sovereignists comment. In addition. their letter states that, in Gothenburg, Professor Anthony Coughlan, leader of the "National Platform" that in Ireland led the "no" campaign to the Nice Treaty, "told us that his next battle would be that of France". This is indeed one of the three EU Member States which "have a referendum enshrined in their constitutions", the three write, while recognising that "the tendency in France is not to organise a referendum on Europe". (You may recall that, after Denmark, France was the second country of the EU to ratify the Nice Treaty).
