Brussels, 25/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - After a lengthy meeting, the last before the summer break, the European Commission adopted two proposals for a regulation on: (1) the traceability and labelling of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and (2) the labelling of genetically modified foodstuffs. The Commission thus intends complementing legislation by appeasing consumer fears with the hope of soon lifting the moratorium in force since 1998. EUROPE will return to this.
