23/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - The rapporteurs of the Committee of the Regions and the European Parliament on the report by the European Commission on economic and social cohesion met last week to share and discuss their work with the directors of the Bureau of the Regions in Brussels. This is the first time that rapporteurs from both institutions discuss their preparatory work on the same subject, and the Committee of the Regions welcomes this in a press release. It calls on the European Parliament to mention in its report the opportunity provided by this kind of meeting with the Committee of the Regions and the regional offices, in order to guarantee a bottom-up approach and respect of the principle of subsidiarity. The report from the Committee of the Regions will be adopted in committee early October then submitted to the plenary vote in November. The two rapporteurs are Jan Tindemans (PES, Netherlands) and Eduardo Zaplana (EPP, Spain).
