Brussels, 27/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved the proposed acquisition of sole control over the German petrochemicals company Erdolchemie GmbH by Deutsche BP AG, German subsidiary of the British giant BP Amoco (oil exploration, refining and petrochemicals). Erdolchemie, which manufactures and sells petrochemical products, has so far been a joint company held equally be BP and Bayer AG. All its plants are located in Germany. The Commission's investigation looked closely at the impact the operation could have on the acrylonitrile market where BP already occupies the top position, but did not note any particular problem of competition. Under these circumstances, it raised no objections.
