Brussels, 15/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - European Commissioner Anna Diamantopoulou signed, on Thursday, the decision approving the new Community 'Equal" Initiative for Greece. The programme will, during the period 2000-2006, aim to try out new ways to fight against discrimination and inequality in employment. The priorities of the Equal programme are employability, developing entrepreneurial drive and adaptability, and the development of equal opportunities for women and men. The amount earmarked for Greece is EUR 104 million.
Ms Diamantopoulou has already recently signed four decisions concerning Equal in France, the United Kingdom, Denmark and Sweden (see EUROPE of 14 March, p.16).
