The two German cooperative banks DG BANK (total balance sheet of 243 bn euro end-1999 with 12,600 employees) and GZ-BANK (balance sheet of 68 bn euro end-February 2000 with 2,300 employees) have signed a letter of intent in view of a merger. The plan could take in WGZ BANK. A three-way merger would give rise to an entity with a balance sheet of 360 bn euro, with over 15,000 collaborators.
