Priorities of European Commission's 2001 programme of work

Last week, the European Commission adopted its programme of work for the current year. It will be presented to the European Parliament by Romano Prodi on 14 February in Strasbourg (see EUROPE of 1 February, p.7). We reproduce below (in French, English and German) the introduction to this programme, explaining the top Commission priorities for 2001, in four key chapters. The detailed programme is given in the annexes in the Commission's website.
