Spanish companies ENDESA and IBERDROLA have announced that they have unanimously decided to renounce the project for merger between their two companies, as they did not agree to the constraints imposed by the Spanish government. The latter had made its approval subject to a strong reduction in their market shares in the production, distribution and marketing of electricity in Spain, by way of 42%, 48% and 40% respectively, although they currently hold 80% in the three sectors.
