24/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The meeting between the European Commissioner responsible for economic and monetary affairs, Pedro Solbes and Jacques De Larosiere, President of the European Savings Observatory, in Brussels on Tuesday, should pave the way for greater cooperation in their respective work on savings. The European Savings Observatory was set up in September 1999 by financial institutions, with the aim of increasing the level of knowledge and harmonisation of procedures applied in the field in the countries of the EU. It regularly publishes surveys and statistics, in part based on certain data compiled by Eurostat.
