Byrne asks Germany to withdraw products containing potentially dangerous materials

Brussels, 22/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - In the context of the bovine spongiform encephalopathy crisis, Commissioner David Byrne has called on the German authorities to withdraw, from the markets of the European Union and third countries, all products containing potentially dangerous materials. The Commissioner especially wants all measures taken by Germany to be notified to all other Member States, notably in view of recalling food products manufactured before 1 October 2000 with beef products. "I welcome these precautionary measures but I insist that they must apply also to all meat products and meat preparations exported to all other Member States and to third countries", said Mr. Byrne.
