ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) chemicals

The Franco-German group AVENTIS is to rid itself of its agrochemicals business pooled under AVENTIS CROPSCIENCE ($4.3 bn turnover in 1999) to focus on its pharmaceuticals business. The German pharmaceuticals firm SCHERING immediately made a bid for the company, in which it already has a 24% stake.
