Védrine and Solana in Zagreb to prepare summit on 24 November - Solana visits several countries of the region

Brussels, 08/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 9 November, the EU Council President Hubert Védrine is to meet, in Zagreb, with the High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, several Croat political representatives and representatives of the international community in the country in order to discuss the latest events in the region and prepare the EU/Balkans summit of 24 November in Zagreb. During the afternoon, Mr Védrine and Mr Solana were mainly to meet Foreign Minister Mr Picula, Prime Minister Racan and President Mesic.

On Wednesday evening, Javier Solana was in Ljubliana where he attended a working dinner with Slovenia's President Kucan and where he was to meet during Thursday morning the prime minister designate, Mr Drnovsek, and Foreign Minister Mr Peterle. On Thursday evening and Friday morning, Mr Solana is in Sarajevo for talks with the EU High Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Mr Petritsch, with Foreign Minister Prlic and the president of the Council of Ministers and Joint Presidency of Bosnia Herzegovina (we recall that the legislative elections are scheduled in Bosnia-Herzegovina for 11 November).

On Friday, Mr Solana will end his tour in the region with meetings in Tirana, with President Mejdani and the Albanian Foreign Minister and Prime Minister, Milo and Meta, and, in Skopje, where he will meet the president, the prime minister and the foreign minister of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Messrs Trajovski, Georgevski and Dimitrov.
