Brussels, 13/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The World Women's March will be held on Saturday 14 October in the European district of Brussels. Its theme is: "Sharing Wealth and Combating Poverty - Against Violence on Women and for Respect of their Integrity". Within the framework of this event, the Commissioner for Equal Opportunity, Anna Diamantopoulou, will be meeting at 1.00 p.m., in the Parc du Cinquantenaire (Pavillion des Passions Humaines), a delegation of the European coordination of the march, which will present its objectives and demands. The European Trade Union Confederation will also have a delegation present, led by Beatrice Hertogs, Confederal Secretary, carrying a banner entitled "Equal Pay for Work of Equal Value". The delegation will be made up of representatives grouped by nationality (German, Belgian, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian and Swedish) as well as representatives of lesbians and immigrant women.
This world march is meant to provide mobilisation meant to give rise to a vast movement of solidarity among grass roots women's groups on demands shared by women's movements around the world, in order to lead decision makers and civil society to make the changes needed to improve living conditions and the quality of life for women.
