The American bank FLEETBOSTON ($181 bn in assets with some 50,000 staff, 1,200 branches) has taken over the regional bank SUMMIT BANCORP ($39 bn in assets with 500 branches). The transaction is estimated at $7 bn in an all-stock deal.
