Brussels, 05/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has agreed to aid to Olympic Airways, authorised in 1998, being used for the transfer of the Greek airline company to the new airport of Spata. The aid, granted in the form of State guarantees was initially to serve to purchase new aircraft. Last July, the Greek Government requested that it be able to use part of the guarantees to finance the investments necessary to transfer the airline company to the new airport of Spata. It also requested to be allowed to extend the duration of the use of the guarantees until 31 March 2001. The European Commission considered that these changes would have no impact on the total amount approved and that the aid thus remained compatible with the rules of the common market.
