SIEMENS MEDICAL ENGINEERING, medical techniques subsidiary of the German electrotechnical group SIEMENS, has made a friendly bid of EUR 791 million for the acquisition of American ACUSON (turnover $475.9 million in 1999 with 1,900 employed), specialised in ultrasound systems. The company's shareholders will be offered $23 per share. Furthermore, SIEMENS is to invest $700 million over the next three months in mobile telephony infrastructures and marketing in Brazil.
