Brussels, 04/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission approved the granting of an additional EUR 1.55 million to the flood victims from last December in Venezuela. Taken for the ECHO budget(Community humanitarian office), these funds will finance five projects benefiting over the next nine months, around 7,500 families in need. These projects cover technical assistance to farmer families that are trying to continue their economic activity, the establishing of a sanitary and water supply system for the local population living in raised homes, aid towards the resettlement of families that have lost their lodgings and belongings, psychological support to mothers and their children, access to socio-educational activities aimed at people temporarily housed in shelters. This payment raised to EUR 7.15 million the aid provided by ECHO to Venezuela since this catastrophe.
