06/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The temporary committee instructed with investigating the American intelligence system, "Echelon", (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.13), has held its constituent meeting and has appointed Gerhard Schmidt, German Social Democrat, as rapporteur. Mr Calors Coelho (Portuguese member of the EPP Group) was elected Chairman. EUROPE will report tomorrow on this first meeting.
