Manila, 10/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - The EU high representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, on Wednesday, left the Philippines where he arrived on Tuesday for "a diplomatic and humanitarian mission" following the hostage taking that have been held, since the 23 April, by Muslim rebels (see EUROPE of 8 and 9 May, page 6, on the declaration adopted by the EU 15 in the Azores). "The EU is sure that the Philippine government will continue its stance aiming to find a negotiated solution to this crises" said Mr. Solana, who indicated having received assurances from President Estrada to this effect and that he had spoken with him over the possibility of establishing "channels of humanitarian aid" for the hostages.
During his mission, Mr. Solana also met the Ambassadors and special envoys for Germany, France and Finland (citizens from these countries are among the hostages) who establishes a crisis centre in Manila.
