The American laboratory MERCK is to purchase the American illness insurance firm PROVANTAGE for $222 million cash. This company will be integrated in MERCK-MEDCO, a MERCK subsidiary that manages the medical cover of some 5 million people with a turnover of $900 million for the year ending end-January 2000.
