ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) advertising

The British advertising group WPP is announcing the acquisition, for over $5 billion, of the American agency YOUNG AND RUBICAM. Both groups have resumed discussions which are about to reach a successful conclusion. If the operation is pulled off, it will give birth to the world leader in this sector. PUBLICIS, which had also approached YOUNG AND RUBICAM, gave up negotiations thus leaving the road open to its rival. See EI of 4 May.
