Brussels, 27/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - EU Council sources have denied reports published on Thursday by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung claiming that the European Union is preparing a large-scale military operation to evacuate the white population of Zimbabwe, where violence is continuing t escalate. The Council's political and military bodies have not discussed this subject and the EU's efforts relating to the crisis in Zimbabwe are still focusing on political pressure to be put on President Mugabe, report these sources. This said however, they point out that Member States obviously have emergency plans that can be activated quickly in the event their citizens living in strife-torn countries should need to be evacuated.
