- Italy: Prime Minister Massimo d'Alema said that the amount of foreign investments increased more than sevenfold in 1999, representing 15.5 bn euro, as against 2 bn in 1998. Italy thus became the 6th largest destination last year for international investments, whereas it was 30th one year earlier
