Luxembourg, 10/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - Presenting the first results of the General Affairs Council on Monday afternoon, Jaime Gama pointed out that the ministers had discussed the situation in Zimbabwe (see below) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as the conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea (see also other article). Concerning Burma, the Council strengthens sanctions while safeguarding the possibilities of EU dialogue with ASEAN. Mr Gama said: "We want to enlarge and strengthen sanctions". On the subject of support of dialogue between Ethiopia and Eritrea, Javier Solana said: "We hope talks will take place at the South/South summit in Cuba.
"The meeting continued in the evening with discussions on relations with Russia and the situation in the Balkans.
