Commission authorises Monsanto and Pharmacia & Upjohn merger (who will have to cede a tranquilliser in the Swedish market)

Brussels, 30/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission authorised, under conditions, the merger of the American companies Monsanto and Pharmacia & Upjohn. The new group will be the 10th largest in the world and the 7th in Europe in the pharmaceutical sector.

The Commission noted that this group would have held an 80% market share in the Swedish market for immediate-release morphine derivatives. To answer the Commissions fears, Pharmacia & Upjohn accepted to cede a third share, under...
