ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) banking

The Portuguese bank BES -BANCO ESPIRITO SANTO and BPI - BANCO PORTUGUES DE INVESTIMENTO have decided not to merge as announced in January. Following analysis of all the implications of the operation, the boards of the two banks concluded that "all necessary conditions were not there to succeed in the process". See EI of 20 January.
