Brussels, 14/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The General Affairs Council decided to waive, for six months, the embargo on flights between EU countries and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The suspension concerns both EU and Yugoslav airlines. At the same time, the Fifteen extended the list of Yugoslavs who may not be given a visa and invited the Commission to come forward with detailed proposals for strengthening the effectiveness of existing financial sanctions. These decisions are contained in the Council Conclusions on the Western Balkans, to which EUROPE will return.
The Council also adopted conclusions on Mexico (welcoming results of trade negotiations) and on Russia. EUROPE will be back with details on these and other Council results.
