European Commission will not propose authorisation for Sweden to prolong retail sales monopoly on alcoholic beverages

Brussels, 01/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - "The European Commission has no intention of proposing extension of the State monopoly on the distribution of alcohol in Sweden". This was the message given on Monday by Mr Bolkestein, European Commissioner responsible for the internal market, to the Swedish finance minister on the fringe of the Ecofin Council.
