The Dutch group AHOLD (sales of EUR 33.5 billion in 1999) has announced that it is buying the Spanish supermarket chain KAMPIO MARKETS for an undisclosed amount, thought to be close to EUR 48 million. KAMPIO MARKETS, with annual turnover of around EUR 100 million, owns 39 supermarkets in Catalonia. This acquisition will bring to 220 the number of supermarkets owned by AHOLD in Spain, with annual turnover of around EUR 500 million.
