EU launches regional energy connectivity project in South Asia

27/07/2026 (Agence Europe)On Sunday 26 July, the EU diplomatic delegation to Bangladesh announced the launch of a new energy connectivity project in South Asia. Funded by the EU to the tune of €5 million and implemented by Expertise France, the project, entitled ‘Energy Connectivity in South Asia’, aims to support a more integrated regional electricity market capable of providing “affordable, clean and reliable” electricity to the populations of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Scheduled to run for four years, the regional project draws on the expertise of several European institutions and organisations, notably ENTSO-E, ACER, ‘Team Europe’ (including the EIB, AFD and KfW), the European Energy Exchange, the Florence School of Regulation, and other private-sector players. (BD)
