ETS1 – Commission has defined rules for support mechanism for use of alternative aviation fuels

On Thursday 6 February, the European Commission adopted a delegated regulation setting out EU rules on support financed by its Emissions Trading System (ETS1), aimed at accelerating the use of sustainable aviation fuels.

In accordance with the latest revision, in 2023, of the ETS Directive (see EUROPE B13087A4), which sets up this mechanism, 20 million allowances, valued at around €1.6 billion, have been set aside from January 2024 to encourage the early adoption of alternative fuels...
