In 2023, the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions totalled 3.4 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalents, a 7% decrease compared with 2022 and 18% reduction compared with 2013, Eurostat reported on Monday 13 January.
Between 2013 and 2023, the production of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning saw the biggest drop (-43%). The transport and storage sector is the only one to emit more, with an increase of 14% in 2023 compared with 2013.
