European Parliament presents 2024 Sakharov Prize to Venezuelan political opposition figures

On Tuesday 17 December in Strasbourg, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, awarded the 2024 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to Venezuelan opposition figures Edmundo González Urrutia and María Corina Machado (see EUROPE B13511A7).

“This award is not just a recognition but also a reminder that the fight for freedom is never in vain”, said Ms Metsola.
